NIGC Announces the Publication of Federal Register Notices

Washington, DC February 2, 2012 — Today, the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC/Commission) announced the publication of two final rules and three proposed rules in the Federal Register. The Commission issued final rules for Fees 25 CFR Part 514 and the repeal of Review and Approval of Ordinances enacted by a tribe prior to February 22, 1999, 25 CFR Part 523. Part 514 has an effective date of October 1, 2012, with the implementation of a transition to quarterly submittal of worksheets and payments on January 1, 2013. Later this year, the Commission intends to issue guidance and offer training and technical assistance to facilitate compliance with this rule.

The Commission also issued proposed rules regarding Facility License Notifications, 25 CFR Part 559, Appeals, 25 CFR Subchapter H, and Self- Regulation of Class II Gaming 25 CFR Part 518. Each of these proposed rules have a public comment deadline of April 2, 2012.

In addition  to  the  above  Federal  Register  publications,  the  Commission previously issued the following proposed rules for public comment:

•    Background investigations for persons or entities with financial interest in or management responsibility for a  management contract, 25 CFR Part 537,
•    Background investigations and gaming licenses for primary management officials and key employees, 25 CFR Parts 556 & 558,
•    Definitions, 25 CFR Part 502  and
•    Enforcement, 25 CFR Part 573.

The public comment period for Parts 537, 556 and 558 closes on February 21, 2012. The public comment period for Parts 502 and 573 closes on February 27, 2012.
