NIGC Announces New Fee Bulletin, Worksheet

Washington, DC February 4, 2013 - The National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC/Commission) announced today that it has published a new fee worksheet and bulletin providing guidance to tribes regarding how to calculate fees pursuant to new fee regulations (25 C.F.R. Part 514).

On February 2, 2012, the Commission published changes to Part 514 in the Federal Register (77 FR 5178). The new regulations became effective on October 1, 2012. Among other changes to the regulation, submitting fee payments and worksheets on a quarterly basis pursuant to §§ 514.5 and 514.6 is now required.

"We believe that the revised fee regulation will make the process of submitting fees simpler and easier for tribes," Chairwoman Tracie Stevens commented. "We hope that the new fee worksheet and explanatory bulletin help to simplify the fee process even further."

Over the past two and a half years, the Commission has sought opportunities to maximize and streamline the compliance process, while maintaining a solid regulatory structure. The new fee worksheet and guidance bulletin are two additional ways the Commission collaborates with tribes to achieve and maintain that goal. "We take the ACE [Assistance, Compliance, and Enforcement] initiative very seriously," stated Associate Commissioner Daniel Little. "Where we can provide guidance and assistance, we strive to do so."

Both the new fee worksheet and fee bulletin can be found on the right-hand side of the NIGC's website, at www.nigc.gov.
