NIGC Announces Consultation Schedule

Washington, DC June 8, 2010 — In its first effort to shift away from singular, consultative meetings with tribes, the National Indian Gaming Commission (the Commission) announced a government-to-government regional consultation schedule for the summer of 2010. The Commission seeks meaningful dialogue with tribes on the formulation, revision and implementation of regulatory policies, procedures, and requirements believed to substantially affect or impact gaming on Indian lands by a tribe.

The Commission is eager to discuss various issues impacting tribes engaged in gaming activities such as the formulation and implementation of revisions to the Commission’s 2004 government- to-government consultation policy, the draft National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) Manual, and the Commission’s 1997 Records Retention Policy.

The Commission has approved a consultation schedule at the following locations, set to begin in June and finish in September:

July 13        Regional Consultation at Squaxin Island Tribe’s Squaxin Island Little Creek Casino in Shelton, WA
July 29        Regional Consultation at United Auburn Indian Community’s Thunder Valley Casino and Resort in Roseville, CA
July 30        Regional Consultation at Rincon Band of Luiseno Mission Indians’ Harrah’s Rincon Casino and Resort in Valley Center, CA
August 3     Regional Consultation at the Cray Plaza (formerly the Galtier Plaza) in St. Paul, MN
August 17   Regional Consultation at the Pueblo of Sandia’s Sandia Resort and Casino in Bernalillo, NM
August 24   Regional Consultation at the Double Tree Hotel, Tulsa Convention Center, Tulsa, OK
Sept 17      Regional Consultation at Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, AZ

**dates subject to revision due to availability of meeting room and other logistical factors.
