NIGC Announces Changes to Consultation Schedule

Washington, DC, August 2, 2011 — The National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC/Commission) announced today that it is canceling one consultation in August, two consultations in September and one consultation in November. The Commission decided to revise its schedule based on feedback from Tribes during the consultation process. "We believe that government-to-government consultation is extremely important. We have held 11 consultations on regulatory review since April. During the course of these consultations, we heard from Tribes that our current review could be enhanced by utilizing alternative approaches and we are making appropriate adjustments which include changes to the existing schedule. " Chairwoman Stevens explained. “As we move forward with proposed rulemaking, we believe this change will benefit both the agency and tribes.”

The following consultations have been cancelled:
August 25-26, 2011 Wild Horse Resort Casino, Scottsdale, AZ
September 19-20, 2011, Sky Ute Casino Resort, Ignacio, CO
September 29-30, 2011, Turning Stone Casino, NY
November 7-12, 2011, Mississippi Choctaw, MS
