Dear Tribal Leader:
I hope this letter finds you and your community well. The National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) is providing notice of office closures in the following Regions: Portland, OR; Sacramento, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Rapid City, SD and St. Paul, MN. Please note that the Washington, D.C. headquarters office will remain open and fully-operational.
On February 26, 2025, the President signed Executive Order (14222) “Implementing the President’s ‘Department of Government Efficiency’ Cost Efficiency Initiative.” In accordance with that Executive Order, the Government Services Administration terminated the leases of three NIGC Region offices – Sacramento, CA; Portland, OR; and Rapid City, SD. Shortly thereafter, the NIGC assessed the cost and efficiency of the four other Region offices – Tulsa, OK; Oklahoma City, OK; Phoenix, AZ; and St. Paul, MN.
The NIGC found that these four Region offices have received very few, if any, visits from tribes, regulatory authorities, and/or the general public. The NIGC does not anticipate that the number of Region office visits will change, especially since most of the Agency’s in-person meetings occur in the field. In addition, most NIGC training and technical assistance is provided at or near the location of the tribal gaming operation(s) or remotely.
The NIGC has determined that the closure of the four remaining Region offices would be fiscally responsible and cost effective to the Agency. These closures will not disrupt the day-to-day business of the NIGC and will not impede or delay the ability to meet with NIGC leadership and/or staff. Additionally, in-person NIGC support to tribes, regulatory authorities, and the public remains the same.
If you would like to meet with your assigned NIGC Region staff, please do not hesitate to contact them to set up a virtual or in-person meeting. For questions regarding Region office closures, contact Chief of Staff, Dustin Thomas, at dustin.thomas@nigc.gov. The Commission and the dedicated NIGC staff look forward to continuing our partnership in regulating and preserving the integrity of Indian gaming.
