Acting General Counsel
Rea Cisneros
Rea Cisneros (Anishinaabe – Lac Courte Oreilles) currently serves as the Acting General Counsel within the NIGC Office of General Counsel.
Rea first joined the NIGC as a Staff Attorney in 2014 and formerly served as the Phoenix Region Attorney. Rea was promoted to Associate General Counsel in 2019 and has worked at the NIGC for more than 8 years. Prior to joining NIGC, Rea was an Associate Attorney at a boutique Indian law firm, which provided executive and legislative representation to tribes, specializing in tribal constitutions and governing agreements.
In 2004, Rea received a Bachelor of Arts from Barnard College, Columbia University, located in New York, New York. In 2011 she received her Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School, located in Madison, Wisconsin, where she served as the President of the Indigenous Law Students Association.

The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act created the National Indian Gaming Commission to support tribal self-sufficiency and the integrity of Indian gaming. NIGC oversees the efficient regulation of more than 500 gaming establishments operated by 250 tribes across 29 states.
