The National Indian Gaming Commission is an independent federal regulatory agency within the Department of the Interior, established pursuant to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988. As such, the NIGC is funded through a permanent appropriation by fees paid by gaming tribes. However, the NIGC relies on some federal entities for services, such as mail and government building security, thus some NIGC operations may be affected as indicated below.
Applies to: October 1, 2013
The NIGC is open and normal operating procedures are in effect. However, due to the government shutdown, mail service will be suspended at NIGC offices. In the meantime, please contact regional offices or headquarters to discuss the best way to submit documents. .
